Recap

Edmonton removes its coach despite back-to-back Stanley Cup Final runs and an unsigned contract extension.

The Oilers fired coach Kris Knoblauch on Friday, ending his tenure after leading Edmonton to the Stanley Cup Final in both 2024 and 2025. Knoblauch had a contract extension in place that had not yet begun, meaning the dismissal came while his current deal remained active.

The move marks a significant shift for an organization that reached consecutive Finals under Knoblauch's leadership. Edmonton will now search for a new head coach during the offseason while the roster remains largely intact.
