Edmonton is set to name Mike Babcock, a Stanley Cup winner with Detroit and the 12th-winningest coach in NHL history, as its next head coach.
The Edmonton Oilers are closing in on a contract to hire Mike Babcock as their next head coach, according to ESPN. Babcock, 63, won the Stanley Cup with Detroit in 2008 and ranks 12th all time in NHL head coaching victories.
The move comes as Edmonton searches for a new bench boss following the 2024–25 season. Babcock’s last head coaching role was with the Toronto Maple Leafs, a position he held for five seasons before departing in 2019.
