The Mets sent right-hander Clay Holmes on a rehab assignment to Single-A Brooklyn on Saturday, per the club’s transaction log, beginning his climb back from the fibula fracture he suffered on a comebacker May 15.

Holmes was the rotation’s steadiest arm before the injury: 4-4 with a 2.39 ERA and 45 strikeouts across nine starts and 52.2 innings. He has been on the 60-day injured list since.

For fantasy purposes, a Single-A assignment means the buildup will take several turns — Holmes needs to stretch back out as a starter, not just get healthy. He is a hold in redraft leagues and a reasonable speculative add in leagues with IL slots, with a realistic return closer to mid-August than the end of July.
