The New England Patriots announced Friday they have released rookie defensive tackle Travis Shaw, opening a roster spot a week before veterans report to training camp on July 24. Shaw, a 6-foot-5, 334-pound nose tackle, signed as an undrafted free agent out of Texas in May and stayed with the team through OTAs and minicamp; he recorded 13 tackles in 13 games as a senior after transferring from UNC. The roster now sits at 89, and head coach Mike Vrabel has previously said tight end is a position the team would look to address before camp.
