Oakland adds depth to its left-handed relief mix while Atlanta clears a roster spot.

The Athletics claimed left-hander Connor Thomas off waivers from the Braves, moving right-hander Mark Leiter Jr. to the 60-day injured list as the corresponding transaction. Thomas was not previously on Atlanta's radar as a designation candidate, suggesting the Braves attempted to pass him through waivers without announcement.

Thomas, 26, has appeared in 11 games for the Braves this season with a 4.50 ERA and 10 strikeouts over 8 innings. The claim adds another left-handed arm to Oakland's bullpen as the trade deadline approaches and gives the pitcher a path to regular roster spot.
