Los Angeles swaps out a recently designated pitcher to bring back the former prospect.
The Dodgers are reacquiring catcher Ben Rortvedt from the Mets in exchange for righty Chayce McDermott, per Aram Leighton of Just Baseball. McDermott was designated for assignment by Los Angeles earlier this month. Rortvedt was not on New York's 40-man roster, so he does not require an immediate roster spot with the Dodgers.
Rortvedt, a former first-round pick, has appeared in 28 games for the Mets this season. The move gives the Dodgers depth at catcher as the team enters the playoff stretch.
