San Diego swaps a young outfielder and prospect for an injury-prone starting pitcher.
The Padres traded outfielder Kash Mayfield and prospect Jackson Wolf to the Tigers on Monday in exchange for starting pitcher Casey Mize and infield prospect Gage Workman, per Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune.
Mayfield, 25, has appeared in 47 games for San Diego this season. Mize, 27, has missed significant time with elbow injuries and made 14 starts in 2026 before the deal. The swap comes as the Padres push for a playoff spot in the stretch run.
