Injury
The veteran reliever was activated from the injured list only to be immediately removed from the 40-man roster.
The Rangers designated reliever Chris Martin for assignment Monday, one day after activating him from the 15-day injured list. Martin suffered a right shoulder impingement in mid-July—his third such injury in recent seasons—and Texas opted not to retain him on the active roster upon his return.
The move drops Texas's 40-man roster to 39. Martin, 36, has appeared in 43 games for the Rangers this season with a 3.77 ERA. The designation opens a roster spot as the Rangers push toward September.
