The Bruins defenseman will miss the start of next season after a playoff incident.
Charlie McAvoy has been suspended for the first six games of next season for a two-handed slash on Buffalo's Zach Benson during the playoffs. The NHL Department of Player Safety announced the ruling Tuesday following an in-person hearing Monday at league headquarters in New York. McAvoy was ejected for the retaliatory slash to Benson's right arm seconds after Benson tripped him into the boards.
McAvoy, 28, posted 11 goals and 50 assists over 69 games in the regular season and anchors Boston's top defensive pairing. The suspension will extend into the 2026-27 regular season.
