Sixteen years ago today, the Pittsburgh Penguins lost Game 7 to the Montreal Canadiens in the second round of the playoffs—the final game ever played at Mellon Arena. The Penguins were defending Stanley Cup champions and had beaten the Ottawa Senators in the first round before the defeat ended their season and closed the venue.
