The Yankees lose their most reliable starter to injury with Rodriguez, a 22-year-old rookie, filling the gap.

The Yankees placed Max Fried on the 15-day injured list Saturday. Fried, 32, has been the team's strongest starter this season, posting a 4-1 record with a 2.09 ERA and 37 strikeouts over 47.1 innings in seven games.

Elmer Rodriguez was recalled to the rotation to cover Fried's absence. The 22-year-old rookie is in his first MLB season and has made one start so far, allowing four runs over 4.0 innings with a 4.50 ERA.
