Detroit's ace clears an early hurdle in his return from elbow surgery.

Tarik Skubal pitched five scoreless innings in his first minor league rehabilitation appearance since undergoing elbow surgery last month. The Tigers right-hander, 29, has been sidelined since the procedure and is working back into game action ahead of a potential return to Detroit's rotation.

Before the injury, Skubal had posted a 3-2 record with a 2.70 ERA across seven starts this season. His next step in the rehab process will determine the timeline for his availability in the majors.
