Laviolette takes over a Los Angeles team in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Los Angeles Kings have hired Peter Laviolette as head coach, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman. Laviolette was considered a finalist candidate for the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs head coaching searches before accepting the Kings job.
The Kings are currently in the second round of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Laviolette, a former head coach in Philadelphia, Washington, and Nashville, brings Stanley Cup Finals experience to a franchise seeking to end a playoff drought.
