Oneil Cruz was placed on Pittsburgh's 10-day injured list with a broken left hand sustained while sliding into the plate during the fourth inning of Saturday's loss to Atlanta. The 27-year-old is batting .254 with 9 home runs and 26 RBI across 31 games this season.
The Pirates will need depth at center field while Cruz is sidelined. His absence comes in early June, leaving the team roughly two months before the trade deadline to gauge both his recovery and their season trajectory.
