Philadelphia activates the veteran right-hander while removing the young prospect from the roster.

The Phillies activated Max Scherzer to the active roster and designated Connor Seabold for assignment ahead of today's series finale against Toronto. Scherzer, 41, brings a long track record of postseason depth to a Philadelphia rotation in the heat of the trade-deadline window.

Seabold, a 24-year-old prospect, had been on the active roster but did not establish a foothold. The move clears a roster spot as the Phillies head into the latter half of June with playoff positioning tightening across the division.
