Injury

Washington's lead back is out of spring work during the critical early-season practice window.

Jacory Croskey-Merritt has been absent from Commanders spring practices due to a soft-tissue injury, per NFL reporter Ben Standig. The 25-year-old back rushed for 805 yards and 8 touchdowns on 175 carries last season and figures as Washington's primary ball carrier heading into 2026.

The Commanders are in mandatory minicamp phase, where early reps shape depth-chart positioning. Croskey-Merritt's absence leaves a window for backup options to earn work, though soft-tissue injuries in the offseason typically resolve without long-term consequence if managed properly through training camp.
