San Francisco moves away from bullpen committee to defined roles.
The Giants have named Caleb Kilian their closer, manager Tony Vitello announced before tonight's game against the Cubs. San Francisco is moving away from a committee approach to assign stricter bullpen roles in an effort to stabilize what has been a problem area.
Kilian, 28, has posted a 0.64 ERA with 16 strikeouts over 14.0 innings in 13 appearances this season. The right-hander will assume the closer role immediately as the Giants seek more defined responsibility at the back end of the bullpen.
