The Knicks guard's team-friendly contract enabled the roster construction that delivered New York's first title.

Jalen Brunson won Finals MVP after scoring 45 points in the clincher, capping a championship run made possible by a contract he signed two years ago. The guard's willingness to accept below-market terms on his deal created salary flexibility that allowed the Knicks to build a contender around him.

Brunson, 29, averaged 26.0 points and 6.8 assists over 74 games in the regular season and carried that production through the playoffs to deliver New York its first title since 1970.
