The No. 22 pick from Alabama set the tone immediately. Philon and Johni Broome hit three consecutive threes to stake the Sixers to a 9-2 lead inside two minutes, and Philadelphia led 30-25 after one and 57-47 at the half. Broome finished with a 19-point, 13-rebound double-double, Dante Maddox Jr. led all Sixers scorers with 21, and the bench chipped in through Isaac Johnson (20) and Amani Lyles (11).
Detroit made it a game late — Isaac Jones (22 points) and rookie Ebuka Okorie (20) combined for 42, and the Pistons tied it twice in the fourth quarter — but Philadelphia never surrendered the lead and closed on a 16-8 run.
From a team-building seat, the interesting part is what this roster is auditioning for. The Jaylen Brown trade and the Anfernee Simons signing settled the top of Philadelphia’s rotation; what July decides is the cost-controlled margin behind it. A 22nd pick who can organize an offense on day one and a second-year big who cleans the glass the way Broome did are exactly the kind of minimum-cost rotation pieces a team carrying max-level salary needs to develop rather than buy. The Sixers are back on the floor Saturday against the Indiana Pacers at 5:30 p.m. ET.
On the fantasy ledger, Philon is a dynasty rookie-draft target more than a redraft pick — the guard rotation in Philadelphia is crowded, but seven assists in a debut is the skill signal dynasty managers pay for. Broome is worth monitoring in deep leagues if frontcourt minutes open up; Maddox and the rest are watch-list only for now.
