The Sacramento Kings took their first Las Vegas loss on Sunday, 104-85 to a Washington summer squad that has looked like the class of the event. Will Riley led all scorers with 32 points, and No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa filled the stat sheet with 23 points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks as the Wizards moved to 2-0.

The headline matchup went Washington’s way. Darius Acuff Jr., taken six picks after Dybantsa in June, had his first rough night of the summer: 12 points on 4-of-14 shooting with four assists, a step back from the 19-point, seven-assist debut he put up in Thursday’s win over the Clippers. One cold shooting night in July against the draft’s consensus best player is the definition of survivable, and the four assists against a pressuring defense are worth as much as the misses.

Why it matters

The quieter story was Maxime Raynaud, who put up 20 points and 15 rebounds and was the only King who consistently won his matchup. Sacramento’s frontcourt depth behind Domantas Sabonis has been a question for two seasons, and Raynaud spending his summer collecting double-doubles is a direct answer to it. Through two games he has been the roster’s most reliable producer.

Sacramento sits at 1-1 in Las Vegas with the schedule still to come. The Acuff-Dybantsa comparison will follow both players for years; Sunday was one data point, and the Kings’ draft board does not get regraded off a summer box score.

On the fantasy side, Raynaud is the name to file away. If the summer production translates to a regular backup-center role, he becomes a deep-league and dynasty stash with double-double upside whenever Sabonis rests. Acuff’s dynasty rookie-draft stock should not move on one 4-of-14 night — the passing and volume are intact, and he remains the presumptive lead guard of Sacramento’s future.
