The Portland Trail Blazers took the Orlando Magic to overtime shorthanded Sunday in Las Vegas and lost 112-105, their second straight Summer League defeat decided in the final minute or later. Yang Hansen, the second-year center who has been the roster’s main developmental attraction, sat out with an illness, per NBA.com.

That left the two-way players to carry the evening, and Jayson Kent answered with 20 points and eight rebounds, his strongest showing of the summer. Portland had the game tied at 101 in the closing seconds of regulation, and Orlando’s Lester Quinones — who finished with a game-high 30 — missed at the buzzer to force the extra period. The overtime turned immediately: Philip Weaver and Alex Morales opened with back-to-back threes for a 107-101 Orlando lead, and Portland never got the deficit back to one possession.

Why it matters

The pattern across two Vegas games is consistent. Portland blew a 16-point lead against Phoenix on Friday and lost by two; Sunday it hung within a bucket of a deeper Orlando roster for 40 minutes without its best big. The losses are close, the effort is real, and the margin disappears exactly when the opponent’s best shooters get clean looks late. For a franchise rebuilding around young guards and a developing frontcourt, close-and-short is the expected July weather.

Kent’s week matters more than the record. A two-way forward fighting for a roster conversion needs games where he is the best player on his side for stretches, and Sunday was one. Portland’s next game comes Thursday against Denver, and Yang Hansen’s availability will be the first question.

For fantasy purposes, Kent remains off the board outside the deepest dynasty formats — two-way contracts cap his regular-season minutes until Portland converts him. Yang Hansen is the name to track: the illness is a short-term absence, not an injury, and his rebounding-and-passing profile makes him a legitimate late-round flier in redraft leagues if Portland’s center rotation opens up this fall.
