The Winnipeg Jets will open the 2026-27 season at Canada Life Centre on Friday, Oct. 2 against the Boston Bruins, the club announced with Thursday’s league-wide schedule release — the NHL’s first 84-game season, up two games from the 82-game format in place since the mid-1990s.

The marquee home date comes three weeks later. Winnipeg hosts the 2026 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic on Sunday, Oct. 25, welcoming the Montreal Canadiens to Princess Auto Stadium in the Jets’ first all-Canadian matchup of the season. An outdoor game against an Original Six opponent in October is the kind of showcase Winnipeg rarely gets on the league calendar, and it lands in the season’s first month rather than as a midwinter novelty.

The two added games per team come inside the division, which tilts Winnipeg’s schedule further toward the Central — more dates with Dallas, Colorado, Minnesota and the rest of a division that has decided the Jets’ playoff seeding in recent seasons.

The honest caveat to any July schedule story is that Winnipeg does not yet know which roster it is scheduling for. Connor Hellebuyck‘s trade market remains the franchise’s open question — Buffalo and now San Jose have been the reported poles of that market — while the front office did close one file this week, signing Cole Perfetti to a five-year, $30 million deal ahead of his arbitration hearing. Whether the goaltender who backstops that Oct. 2 opener is Hellebuyck will say more about the Jets’ season than anything on the calendar.

For fantasy managers, the 84-game format adds two games of counting-stat volume for every full-season Jets hold, and Perfetti’s settled contract removes the arbitration cloud from a 24-year-old with top-six deployment. The bigger fantasy variable is unchanged from last week: until Hellebuyck has a confirmed address, Winnipeg’s skaters and its crease both carry destination risk that no schedule grid resolves.
