The Boston Celtics ended their Las Vegas Summer League on Saturday with a 103-97 consolation loss to the Orlando Magic at the Thomas & Mack Center, finishing the trip 3-2. The score was the least meaningful part of the afternoon: Boston treated the finale as a rest day, holding out Hugo González, Chris Cenac Jr. and Dillon Mitchell, per CelticsBlog’s recap. John Tonje led the remaining group with 14 points in 19 minutes.

The evaluations that mattered were already in the ledger. González bookended the week with a 17-point, 10-rebound, 8-assist opener and a 24-point closer against Sacramento — the most complete case any Celtic made in Vegas, as covered when Boston missed the semifinal bracket on point differential. Cenac stacked a 10-and-12 double-double on top of a 16-point, four-block game, Mitchell put up 24 points and seven offensive rebounds against Charlotte, and Tonje shot it steadily in all five appearances. Sitting the three most important prospects in a consolation game is what a front office does when the week has answered its questions.

What it adds up to, banner accounting included: the first Summer League of the post-Jaylen Brown roster produced three young players who look ready to compete for real minutes on a team that will need cheap production around Jayson Tatum. That is the outcome Boston came to Vegas for, and one exhibition loss with the regulars in street clothes does not amend it.

For fantasy purposes, nothing from Saturday changes the week’s read: González remains the only near-term name — a deep-league flier if Boston’s wing rotation stays unsettled into the fall — while Cenac and Mitchell are dynasty watch-list stashes whose value rests on the minutes this roster teardown could open up.
