Cooper DeJean is not dodging the reunion question. Asked about lining up across from A.J. Brown during a live episode of his “Exciting Mics” podcast at Fanatics Fest in New York on Saturday, the Philadelphia Eagles cornerback did not reach for a cliché. “I would love to go against him,” DeJean said. “I know he’d love to go against us too, so it’d be a fun battle.”
Brown was traded to the New England Patriots in early June, ending a four-season run as Philadelphia’s top receiver, and the schedule puts the two teams on the field together this fall. When that game arrives, the Eagles will send out a secondary that knows Brown better than any unit in football. DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell spent their first two NFL seasons covering him every day in practice — and Brown spent those same practices showing them what an elite release looks like from a yard away.
That familiarity cuts both ways, which is why DeJean’s eagerness reads as the right answer rather than the brave one. Corners who shared a field with Brown daily know his tells; Brown knows theirs just as well. The film prep for that week will be less about discovering tendencies than about betting on who has grown more since the trade — and DeJean, entering his third season, is the Eagles’ best argument that the answer is Philadelphia.
DeJean co-hosted Saturday’s episode with Reed Blankenship, the former Eagles safety who signed with Houston in free agency — a reminder of how much turnover that secondary has absorbed in one offseason. That leaves DeJean as the tone-setter now, and volunteering for the hardest assignment on the schedule is what tone-setting sounds like in July. Camp opens July 29; the evidence starts then.
For fantasy purposes, the trade has already redrawn the map: Brown’s target projection now lives in New England’s offense, while the Eagles’ vacated WR2 targets are the subject of a genuine camp battle between Makai Lemon and Dontayvion Wicks. DeJean himself remains a strong IDP corner option on tackle volume and splash plays, and nothing about his offseason suggests that changes.
