Saquon Barkley and his family were not harmed in an attempted home invasion at the Philadelphia Eagles running back’s Chester County, Pennsylvania, residence early Saturday morning, according to the Tredyffrin Township Police Department and the Chester County District Attorney’s Office.
The incident happened around 5 a.m., per the DA’s office. At least one suspect entered the house while Barkley and his family were inside, and the suspects fled before officers arrived on a burglary-in-progress call. Police released a photo of a white SUV they believe is connected to the crime and are asking the public for help identifying it, per FOX 29 Philadelphia.
“We know there’s more than one, but we’re still trying to determine how many were involved,” Tredyffrin Township Police Captain Tyler Moyer said, via NBC10 Philadelphia. “All of the occupants in the home were physically OK, obviously a little unsettled as anybody would be, but nobody was harmed.”
Investigators are working with federal law enforcement to determine whether the attempt is connected to the theft rings that have targeted professional athletes’ homes in recent years, a list that includes Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Joe Burrow. “We will look at all angles of this because we know, obviously, it’s been all over the news in the past few years about different professional athletes’ homes getting burglarized,” Moyer said.
Neither Barkley nor the Eagles had issued a public statement as of Sunday night. The team’s first training camp practice remains set for July 29, and no injuries were reported, so the incident is not expected to affect Barkley’s availability.
