The Avalanche signed forward Georgii Merkulov to a one-year contract Monday, per Colorado Hockey Now’s Aarif Deen. The 25-year-old spent most of last season in the AHL, where he led his team with 61 points (24 goals) in 70 games, and appeared in one NHL game with Boston. He has 240 points in 271 career AHL games but just one point in 11 NHL games. It is an organizational-depth move with a clear upside case: a proven minor-league scorer betting on a thinner path to NHL minutes in Colorado. Fantasy relevance is limited to deep dynasty formats — he is a name to file away only if injuries open a scoring-line audition.
