Ottawa and its 28-year-old right wing remain far from a deal before free agency.
The Ottawa Senators and Drake Batherson are in early extension talks but remain far apart on terms, per Postmedia's Bruce Garrioch. Batherson, 28, is a pending unrestricted free agent heading into the offseason, and the Senators face a significant challenge in retaining the right wing before he can test the market.
Batherson posted 33 goals and 38 assists across 79 games last season, anchoring Ottawa's forward group. His contract status shapes the Senators' cap planning ahead of training camp in September.
