Kansas City clears roster spots with Bobby Witt Jr. returning from injury.

The Royals designated left-hander Matt Strahm and infielder Andrew Velazquez for assignment Tuesday, opening spots for Bobby Witt Jr.'s return from the injured list and the recall of right-hander José Cuas from Triple-A Omaha. Strahm, 34, had pitched 12 games with a 3.86 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 11.2 innings this season.

The moves come during the stretch run with September call-ups and playoff positioning in focus across the league. Strahm's designation ends his 2026 campaign in Kansas City; Velazquez's fate will depend on whether another club claims him off waivers.
