New York's offense continued to sputter with key middle-order bats sidelined.
The Yankees managed only four hits in a 3-1 loss to St. Louis on Thursday, their offense hampered by the absence of three injured sluggers from the middle of the lineup. The stretch-run stretch run at the plate has left New York's run production in a bind as September approaches.
The loss deepens the team's offensive struggles during a critical window. With the injury toll mounting in the lineup's core, the Yankees face a mounting challenge to generate consistent at-bats and scoring depth down the stretch.
