Injury

Kansas City will start the preseason without its franchise quarterback.

Patrick Mahomes is unlikely to play in the Chiefs' preseason opener against the Rams on Saturday, Aug. 15, per Andy Reid. The quarterback is dealing with a knee injury. Mahomes completed 2025 with a 3,587-yard, 22 TD, 11 INT line across 14 games.

The decision keeps the 10-year veteran out of early exhibition action during camp. Reid's typical preseason load management often limits his starting quarterback's snaps regardless of health, so the exact nature and severity of the knee issue remain unclear.
