Brady's seven runs
Brady won his first Super Bowl in his second NFL season — Super Bowl XXXVI in February 2002 over the heavily-favored St. Louis Rams. He added rings in February 2004 (Carolina), February 2005 (Philadelphia), February 2015 (Seattle), February 2017 (the 28-3 Atlanta comeback), February 2019 (Los Angeles), and February 2021 with Tampa Bay over Kansas City. Five of the seven came down to the final possession.
Brady is also the only player in any of the four major sports to win a championship with two different franchises in the past two decades and the only quarterback ever to win MVP of the Super Bowl five times. He is the all-time leader in Super Bowl appearances (10), Super Bowl wins (7), and Super Bowl passing yards (3,039).
The four-ring club below him
Eleven players are tied for second all-time at 4 Super Bowl rings: Charles Haley (Cowboys/49ers), Joe Montana (49ers), Terry Bradshaw (Steelers), Lynn Swann, Mel Blount, Joe Greene, Jack Lambert, Jack Ham, Rocky Bleier, Larry Brown (all Steelers from the 1970s dynasty), and Adam Vinatieri (Patriots/Colts).
Several active and recently-retired stars sit at 3 rings: Patrick Mahomes (LIV, LVII, LVIII), Travis Kelce (LIV, LVII, LVIII), Russell Wilson (1, with Seattle), Eli Manning (XLII, XLVI), and assorted Patriots from the 2000s. Mahomes at age 30 is the only realistic active candidate to chase Brady — he’d need 4 more rings in a career arc starting from the 2024 season.
Coaches and franchises
On the coaching side, Bill Belichick won 6 Super Bowls — all with Brady on the roster — leading him to retire from New England after the 2023 season. Andy Reid (3 with Kansas City) and Chuck Noll (4 with Pittsburgh in the 1970s) round out the modern coaching leaderboard.
By franchise: the Patriots and Steelers are tied with 6 Super Bowl wins, the most of any team. Then San Francisco, Dallas, and Green Bay with 5 each. The Buccaneers’ 2 wins (XXXVII and LV) both came against teams favored by 3+ points.
