The team's directors approved moving forward with development plans for a new stadium outside Chicago.

The Bears' board of directors voted Thursday to advance stadium development plans in Hammond, Indiana, a significant step toward relocating the franchise from Chicago. The move brings the team closer to breaking ground on a new facility across state lines.

Hammond sits roughly 30 miles southeast of Soldier Field in the Northwest Indiana region. The vote represents the first major board-level approval for the relocation project, though the plan still requires additional municipal, state, and league approvals before construction can begin.
