Recap

Chicago's ownership is exploring a move to Hammond, ending a century-long presence in Illinois.

The Bears' board of directors voted to advance stadium development at a site in Hammond, Ind., chairman George McCaskey and president and CEO Kevin Warren announced. The move marks a formal step toward potential relocation after 106 seasons in Illinois since the franchise began play in 1920.

The board did not announce a final decision or timeline. Hammond, roughly 30 miles southeast of Chicago, sits just across the state line in Northwest Indiana. The team has explored stadium options in the Chicago area for years without reaching a deal with local and state officials.
