This is what a clean road win looks like. The Cleveland Guardians got length from their starter, ran the bases hard, and put away the Miami Marlins 4-1 on Saturday for their third straight victory — all without hitting a single home run.
Tanner Bibee carried the night, allowing one run on five hits over 6.2 innings. The four walks made it more work than it needed to be at 94 pitches, but he stranded the traffic and handed a lead to a bullpen that didn’t wobble: Shawn Armstrong, Franco Aleman and Colin Holderman closed out the final seven outs, with Holderman earning the save. Bibee is 3-9 now with a 3.90 ERA — a record that has said more about his run support than his pitching all season.
The offense was built on singles, doubles and steals. Gabriel Arias went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, Steven Kwan and Patrick Bailey drove in two runs apiece, and Cleveland swiped four bags in all against Miami starter Eury Pérez, who took the loss despite six innings of two-run ball. Four runs, no homers, constant pressure on the bases — the Guardians manufactured this one the old way, and it was plenty.
At 50-46, Cleveland remains dead even with the White Sox at the top of the AL Central; Chicago shut out the Athletics on Saturday, so the deadlock holds. The Guardians have won six of ten and get one more game in Miami before the All-Star break. In a race this tight, a getaway-day win Sunday would be worth exactly as much as any statement victory.
For fantasy managers, Bibee remains a buy: the 3.90 ERA and strikeout track record play in all formats, and the win-loss record has scared off enough shallow-league managers to make him a trade target. Arias is the deeper-league note — three hits and two steals from a middle infielder getting everyday at-bats is the kind of line worth streaming while it lasts.
