The Brewers activated right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. on Friday and optioned left-hander Jared Koenig to Triple-A Nashville. McCullers came over from Houston on July 15 after waiving his no-trade clause, with Milwaukee’s rotation thinned by Brandon Woodruff on the 60-day injured list and Kyle Harrison on the 15-day. He made eight starts for the Astros this season with a 6.86 ERA, 43 strikeouts and 22 walks in 39 1/3 innings. Shane Drohan starts Saturday against Miami, so McCullers’ first Milwaukee appearance is still to come.
In fantasy terms he is not yet an add outside deep NL-only formats. The walk rate that produced that ERA in Houston has to come down before the innings are usable, and until the Brewers name him for a start there is no defined role to speculate on.
