Trea Turner answered a rough night in the field with the best kind of correction, hitting two home runs and driving in five to lead the Philadelphia Phillies past the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-7 on Monday night. His three-run shot off Alex Vesia was the 200th home run of his career.
Turner’s two-run drive in the second off Emmet Sheehan staked Philadelphia to an early lead, and the milestone blast later helped break the game open. He was not alone. Bryce Harper, Brandon Marsh and Derek Hill all homered as the Phillies piled up 10 runs in a back-and-forth win.
Cristopher Sánchez was not at his sharpest but did enough, allowing three runs over 5 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts and no walks. The bullpen covered the rest, and Jhoan Duran closed the door in the ninth.
The Dodgers did not go quietly. Mookie Betts homered twice and added two singles for a four-hit night, but Los Angeles could not overcome Sheehan’s early struggles.
Philadelphia improved to 56-45, holding second place in the NL East, three games behind Atlanta. For a lineup that has leaned on its stars all summer, getting Turner, Harper and Marsh to go deep in the same game is exactly the version of this offense the Phillies need to see with the deadline approaching.
In fantasy terms, Turner is a locked-in top-tier shortstop, and the 200th homer only underscores the power-speed profile; Duran’s save keeps him valuable in a firm closer role. Hill, who chipped in a solo homer, is more of a deep-league flier than a standing add.
